When I got back up to Maryland this past Friday night, I remembered that there was a freeze warning in the area, so I decided to harvest the last of the peppers and tomatoes in our garden. Then I saw this group of deer in the distance, in a yard next to ours. Now these deer will eat garden plants, including tomatoes, azaleas and hostas. So to protect our garden from the deer, I shined a flashlight in the deer's faces. I remembered that deer have to face hunters a lot, so I held the flashlight, pretending it was a rifle. The deer walked away slowly, but they came back. So I made clicking sounds (like the loading of a gun). The deer slowly walked away again, and this time, they did not come back.

Well, we know they'll be back. But hey, at least neither deer nor human was hurt. And of course, the best thing you can do to keep deer away is proper fences (>6 ft high) and planting certain things that deer don't eat.
