The fire bird appears in several mythologies. In Slavic folklore, the Firebird (zhar-ptitsa, literally "heat bird") was both a bringer of doom and a blessing to its captor (source: [link] ); and in China, the Vermilion Bird (which is known in Japan as Suzaku) represents fire, the south and summer (source: [link] ).
